It was remade by Sonic superfan Christian Whithead in 2011, to widespread critical acclaim, which 6 years later lead to the excellent Sonic Mania in 2017. The quality of both soundtracks still to this day remains one of the most hotly debated topics in the Sonic community. One for the US, composed by Spencer Neilson, and one for EU/JP, composed by Naofumi Hayataya. It also features two distinct soundtracks.
